Life-long Education and Training in Health Care Sector for Harmonization with EU Recommended Standards: Musculoskeletal Radiology (LERAD)

This activity has been supported by the Central European Initiative (CEI) which is a regional intergovernmental forum committed to supporting European integration through cooperation between and among its Member States and with the European Union (EU), other interested public institutions or private and non-governmental organisations (NGOs), as well as international and regional organisations. More information on strategic objectives and aim could be found on the link (http://www.cei.int/content/mission-objectives).

As one of the priorities of the CEI action plans, life long learning is especially important in dynamic and multidisciplinary are in medicine such as radiology. High quality health care, diagnosis and treatment, has been recognized as one of the most important objectives in the CEI countries and therefore, consequently, life long education is priority and long term dedication.

As musculoskeletal (MSK) pathology is one the most frequent in routine clinical work, the aim is provide modern concept of education, organized in lectures and workshops, during which, selected cases are being discussed interactively with participants, in a real clinical setting. Scientific program is covering the most important aspects of diagnostic procedures in radiology of musculoskeletal system and typical cases from routine clinical workup. At the end of the School, participants will have a good knowledge of presented topics and will be able to respond to clinical demands in their clinical work.

Also, there is going to be hands on training in ultrasound (US) of MSK system, moderated by experienced experts in this area. Participants will be shown basic principles of US examination and will have a possibility to exam patients by themselves under supervision of experienced ulstrasonographers. In this way, the participants will be able to keep them abreast of the latest trends in this fast paced medical imaging industry and will satisfy continuing education requirements and expand professional development.

School of MSK radiology has already took place in Belgrade, May 13-15, 2016 with the same concept and was very welcome by participants from Serbia, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro (please, see the link http://www.msk-school.com/). According to the evaluation of participants, the overall score of presenters, scientific content, and significance for improvement knowledge and competence was 4,88 out of 5,00 which is a bases for continuing education in this area using the same concept.

OBJECTIVES

  • To learn about the clinical characteristics which are important in interpretation of imaging of musculoskeletal system,
  • To recapitulate knowledge of anatomy of musculoskeletal system and importance of correlation of clinical findings and findings of imaging techniques,
  • To present the most frequent clinical cases in routine clinical practice,
  • To focus on the most important information which radiologists should give to other clinical doctors,
  • To present possibilities, tips and tricks, of different visualization imaging techniques in clinical settings,
  • To learn about the importance of therapeutic aspects and relation to radiological reports,
  • To present structured reporting and importance for harmonization in CEI countries with recommendation with ESR and RSNA.
